Stuck in a Rut? It’s All About Your Routine!

You’ve probably heard the old saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but what if I told you that establishing a daily routine could do the same thing?

Just like eating an apple every day can improve your physical health, creating routines in your day can have a positive impact on your overall well-being, too.

Why?

Routines provide structure and stability, and they can help you stay focused, motivated, and goal-oriented. They can help you boost your productivity, reduce stress, live a more fulfilling life, and help you achieve your goals.

As a coach, I can tell you that creating routines is one of the best things you can do to stick to your decisions and keep yourself accountable. But routines don’t have to be boring or rigid. In fact, creating a routine that’s tailored to your personality and lifestyle, and trust me on this, can actually be fun!

We thrive on routines and structure and often feel lost and aimless without them. But routines are not just about filling our days with mundane tasks and activities. When done right, they can be a powerful tool for nurturing our choices and achieving our goals.

Using Routine to Nurture Your Choices

Remember my blog post about nurturing your choices? Creating routines plays a key part in sticking to your decisions. When you establish a routine, you’re setting a structure and a framework for your day. You’re creating a system that allows you to be productive, stay focused, and achieve your goals.

Okay, so if you’re thinking this all sounds good, you’re probably wondering how to actually implement a routine into your very busy day, am I right?! (Little secret – working on and establishing a routine will make your day less hectic, I promise!)

Here are some tips I like to tell my friends, family, and clients:

Know your values and priorities.
Before you create a routine, it’s important to get clear on what’s most important to you. What are your values and priorities? What are your goals and aspirations? Use these as a guide for creating a routine that aligns with your values and supports your goals.

Be realistic!
Creating a routine can be overwhelming, especially if you’re trying to overhaul your entire day all at once. Start small by focusing on one or two habits that you want to cultivate. Once those habits become ingrained in your routine, you can add more.

Be flexible.
Life is unpredictable and sometimes things don’t go according to plan. Be flexible with your routine and be willing to adjust it as needed. Don’t let a disruption to your routine derail you from your goals.

Be accountable.
Accountability is key to sticking to your routine. Find an accountability partner, or use an app or tool that can help you track your progress and keep you motivated.

Celebrate your successes.
Celebrate those wins, no matter how small! Celebrating your progress can help keep you motivated and on track.

In the end, creating a routine can be a powerful tool for nurturing your choices and achieving your goals. But it’s not just about the routine itself. It’s about the mindset and the intention behind it. When you create a routine with the intention of nurturing your choices and aligning your actions with your values and goals, you’re setting yourself up for success.

So, whether you’re trying to establish a morning routine, a workout routine, a business routine, or an “OMG, I am a super busy mom/wife/friend/daughter with errands/volunteer” routine, remember that the routine is just a tool. The real power comes from your mindset behind it.

By nurturing your choices and creating routines that support your goals, you’re creating a life that is full of purpose, passion, and joy.
