Taking Hard Actions

When the Right Decision May Not Be the Popular One

Do you find decision-making to be stressful? Overwhelming? Exhausting? You’re not alone. Even the seemingly simplest decisions – like what to make for dinner – can be hard. And sometimes it’s the ACTION we need to take to implement our decisions that can be the toughest thing we may face.

Why? Because decisions take ENERGY. They take our brainpower. And generally speaking, we’re the only ones who can make the right decisions for ourselves!

Talk about draining!

Of course, our daily decisions fall into different places on the old difficulty scale.

What to wear today? Pretty easy.

Starbucks or a local coffee shop for lunch? Eeek, depends on what we’re craving, or who we’re with!

What to watch on Netflix? Practically impossible! 🤣

I joke because these are easy decisions when it comes to their impact on your life.

It’s those big decisions, the ones we know really affect our lives, that twist our tummies in a knot: how to run our business, who to hire and who to fire, where to send our kids to school, how to invest our money, and the list goes on.

But then there are the decisions that you make for yourself that others may not agree with. Those are the really hard ones, because they come with outside opinions and judgment, and sometimes, they can damage or change relationships.

Often, these are the decisions that are truly aligned with your heart and soul. They can take you off the beaten path, steer you away from what those closest to you are doing, and can sometimes lead us in a different direction from what we have known for most of our lives.

It can be a challenging, but also a liberating experience that brings a sense of fulfillment, purpose, and inner peace.

A Spiritual Decision that Changed My Life

For some, like myself, it may involve a spiritual journey that leads to a change in religious beliefs.

I was brought up in the Roman Catholic faith and cherish the foundation it provided for me. But, for quite some time, I felt a calling to explore other faiths and deepen my relationship with God in a different way.

After much contemplation and prayer, I recently made a decision to be baptized and give my life to Christ. This decision aligned with my values, and it felt right in my heart and soul. It has brought a sense of peace and purpose to my life, and I am excited to explore my newfound faith further.

The Christian beliefs and values of Freedom Church in Gallatin, Tennessee, have played a significant role in this decision. Their focus on love, compassion, forgiveness, and community has resonated deeply with me. Their commitment to helping others and making a positive impact in the world aligns with my own values and aspirations.

While this decision may go against my upbringing, I have come to understand that spirituality is a personal journey that evolves over time. It is an ongoing process of growth, self-discovery, and discernment that requires an open mind and heart.

It’s okay to question the beliefs we have been taught and to seek out our own spiritual path. It takes courage and vulnerability to embrace a new direction, but it can lead to a greater sense of purpose and a more profound connection with the divine.

And so, making a decision that is aligned with our heart and soul can sometimes lead us in a different direction from what we have known for most of our lives. However, by trusting our instincts, following our values, and seeking out a community that aligns with our beliefs, we can find a sense of fulfillment and purpose that comes from living a life that is true to who we are.

Decisions at any life stage are hard, and sometimes an unbiased shoulder to lean on is just what you need to set your heart and soul free. 💜
